Flash Mind Reader (Mystical Ball) secret revealed

You may have come across this so called "Psychic Mind Reader" or "Mystical Ball" stuff while surfing the net. And I'm damn sure most of you netizens were curious or in awe the first time you tried it. So was I.
If you aren't sure what am I talking about (writing about rather), check out the links below:
http://www.bored.com/mysticalball/

I first saw this smart piece of work some years ago, but never bothered to figure out the math algorithm behind this puzzle.
One of my friends mailed it to me yesterday and that got me thinking.
As I had first thought, the solution was a simple one. In fact, Too simple.
Its the "Magic of Math" and not symbols and stuff.

So how does it work?
Note: Before proceeding, atleast make an attempt to solve it yourself.

Consider the numbers in the list. Now apply the Math you are asked to perform in the puzzle for all numbers from 10 to 19..

10 - (1 + 0) = 9
11 - (1 + 1) = 9
19 - (1 + 9) = 9

This will surely enlighten you. Amazingly, the answer is always nine.
Why is the answer always the same? That would be a dumb question.
Anyway, here's the answer.
Let's take from the samples shown above.
The original numbers always increment by one (10,11,12....19), but so does the values we are using to subtract ( 1+0,1+1,1+2...1+9).
Obviously, it will yield the same number.

Now consider all numbers between 20 and 29..
20 - (2 + 0) = 18
21 - (2 + 1) = 18
Its 18 here.
And how is 18 related to 9 ? Its a multiple of 9 offcourse.

Similarly, for the set 30-39, it will be 27. 27 is another multiple of 9.
40-49 will return 36.

Now take a close look at the symbols for the number 9 and its multiples.
Well! You must have guessed it by now. All the symbols are the same and this is the answer.

It is truly the magic of the number 9.

actuly he is right about the number... what ever number you get it will be divisable by 9

You are an idiot, why reveal the secret, you should keep it to yourself and let everyone else break their minds until they solve it as I did, as you did, etc. What did you get out of it? Were you paid? No, you just ruinned it and now people cant have competion on it, on who will solve it first, etc..

Nevermind the above poster. Thanks for explaining it to those of us who are simply not bothered or skilled enough to work it out yet still benefit from understanding it.
Sweet!
My cousin thought it
was a ghost O.o
[she's thirteen xD]
anyway,now i can tell her
arse it is the "MAGIC OF NUMBER 9!!"
:D

thank you!
You are super-skilled and talented at math too :]
I would NEVER figure it out xD
@Elaine - Thanks for your comments
ALL MY FRIENDS THOT IT WAS CREEPY. I JUST NEW THERE IS A SOLUTION TO IT THOU I NEVER FIGURED IT OUT. THANX, I CAN STAND AND SAY ITS NOT DEVILISH ITS THE MAGIC OF 9!

It doesn't work if you do 99! Ha!
Comment by Anonymous Anonymous on July 9, 2009 at 8:50 AM
that doesn't answer the question because how does the program know if you are gonna pick a number that makes the answer a multiple of 9
Comment by Anonymous Anonymous on July 9, 2009 at 11:17 PM
if you look at the nr 9 the symbol changes every time to match the your answer,99 also.

Yea I figured it out when I was in middle school...
thaxxx gr88 buddy
yeah, but it does not explain HOW the comp thing knows what number we are adding/subtracting or our final number. pretty stupid explanation in that area, though the coming of it good.
oh and anon, who commented on 'June 26, 2008 3:55 AM' you are and idiot.. cause no one would look this up, like youself, for the answers, unless they wanted to. so dont call this smart dude an idiot, its not like people just wander across it.
and anon on the 'June 20, 2009 4:24 AM' 9+9=18. 99-18=81. 81/9=9. you're stupid anon.

This game is not solved by number 9. Somehow it knows the number you start from. Not all answers end with 9 or its multiples. How does it work?

1. I thought it was an excellent explanation, it made perfect sense to me.
2. If you didn't want to "ruin the magic" you could read the title of the article and decide not to read it.
3. If you don't always get a multiple of nine, I'm sorry but you suck at math and the game won't work for you.
4. Stop arguing with this article, because it is right. The game DOES NOT know the number you sart from. If yoou still think it does, actually read the whole article this time.
5. thanks for the article, I had a vague idea of how it worked, but I never quite knew why. I love math!
in the game on the divisors of nine and nine itself the symbols change(and there the same symbol on each divisor), so almost every time you choose a number and subtract from it you get either a divisor of nine or nine itself.

I'm one of the people who figure out how these work. Sometimes it annoys the cow-orkers when they have "something really neat" and I show them the method behind it. Other times they come to me and ask me to explain why things work.

have you tried using 50 as your 2 digit number? it wont work...
Comment by Anonymous Anonymous on June 10, 2011 at 12:03 AM
Well, actually 50 works because

50-(5+0)=45, 45/5=9 therefore...make your summary.(:

But damn my curiosity, I was starting to notice that every time I click the button the symbols change from number to number and every so many numbers the symbols repeat themselves...Then this came up with my other google results of 'mystic ball'....Argh!

Nice article though, I shall move on to my next brainteaser.
Do you know the secret of 7 up fido

I know the secret of 7 up fido
link : http://www.digicc.com/fido/

I also know that it maddened you by its mind reading trick . I also got maddened by this . But when I concentrated on it I found the secret.

when he asks to do choose a number of 3 0r 4 digits
choose the nos and do what it says.

When he asks to type the other numbers, like if you type 87

See that which multiple of 9 is near to it. The multiple should be smaller than or equal to the number.

Like 81 is near 87.

So if you type 81 the answer will be 9

if you type 82 the answer will be 8

if you type 83 the answer will be 7

if you type 84 the answer will be 6

if you type 85 the answer will be 5

if you type 86 the answer will be 4

if you type 87 the answer will be 3

if you type 88 the answer will be 2

if you type 89 the answer will be 1

if you type 90 the answer will be 9

and so on .................................................. .................................................. ...................

So your answer will be 3
