View Multiple PDF Files in different Tabs with Foxit Reader

Running a PDF document had always been a pain with Acrobat Reader. Many users complained about the memory it consumed and the time it took Acrobat to open a PDF file. Remember those slow and annoying splash screens?

A lot changed since Foxit PDF Reader hit the scene as it is small and incredibly fast when it comes to opening and viewing PDF files. That was enough for me to make the switch.
Although more recent versions of Acrobat Reader has significant improvements that would make one go back to using it, the lastest Foxit Reader takes the cake.

Some of the new features include -

1. Multi-tab PDF viewing
Just like you view web pages with multiple tabs in Firefox, Foxit allows you to view multiple PDF files in different tabs.

2. Users can create bookmarks
Now users have the ability to add, edit, delete bookmarks for PDF document, if the security settings allow.

3. Multimedia Support
Foxit Reader can now read multimedia content from PDF files. Support for many media formats in audio and video has been included.

4. Automatic Scrolling
Users can view documents without using the mouse or keyboard.

These are only some of the new features that were worth mentioning here. Foxit Reader is Free! Foxit Reader is Windows only.

Search Shared Files with FilesTube

File sharing sites like Megaupload, Rapidshare have never provided a feature that is considered by many as 'must have' i.e searching the content uploaded on their servers.
This has caused a lot of sites to pop-up that let you search for content from popular file hosting sites. Once such site is FilesTube.
Even Google can be used to search file hosts, but it is a wee bit geeky. Using FilesTube is easier.

FilesTube searches for files from several file hosting sites which includes :
Files can be searched by type (avi, mp3, mpeg, mpg, rar, wma, wmv, zip). An optional advanced search option is available. Check it out!

Upload and Share Files Upto 5 GB with File Dropper

Not many have an internet connection that allows to upload a file up to 5 GB in size. 5 GB is too big for many ISPs, at least at this point of time. The few ones who have a really fast connection are going to like File Dropper.

File Dropper is a service that lets you upload a file up to 5 GB. Upload limit aside, it was the ease of use that caught my fancy. One only has to press the upload button and select a file; the upload begins immediately using ajax techniques.
After completion, a link is provided to download the file.

According to File Dropper, a file is hosted on its servers as long as it is being downloaded. There is no information on how long the file can exist if it isn't downloaded.
Anyway, a neat and easy site to share your stuff with friends. Wonder who's got the time to upload a file up to 5 GB? Not me!

Add Spell-Checking to Any Windows Application

Spell Checking! Something that Notepad really lacked. Off course! Typing directly in your word processor will provide you a spell checker. But applications like notepad are useful when typing some quick notes. Not just notepad, some of your favourite programs may not have one.

Here's a nifty little tool that lets you 'Add' spell checking features to your favourite applications.
It's called Tiny Spell Checker!

Tiny Spell checks your typing on-the-fly and alerts you with beeps(which can be disabled) when a word is misspelled.
It does not underline misspelled words. Instead, a little box appears that displays the misspelled word. Clicking the small box will provide a list of legible words (image below).

Tiny Spell can also check the spelling of every word you copy to the clipboard. It uses an American-English dictionary with 110,000 words. Users can add their own words to this dictionary.
Tiny Spell sits in the system tray from where you can control all options. It is Free! A paid version is also available.
